Alexan Padmagharian, a dentist, founded Pop Studio in Tehran in 1349 (1970) due to his strong passion for music, using personal funds. Initially, like other studios of the time, Pop Studio used basic equipment for sound recording. In those recording studios, only two input channels were available for all musicians and singers during recording, so the entire orchestra and singers performed together.
At that time, recording studios in Iran were limited to one two-channel reel-to-reel recorder and a mixer. The number of recording studios in Iran was very limited and could be counted on one hand.
In 1350 (1971), the first multi-track music recording device with 8 analog input channels was purchased from Switzerland. Along with this device, other equipment was imported, with the most important being the modern acoustic, the Electro-Magnetic Tape (EMT) echo system, and the Limiter Compressor. These tools were considered state-of-the-art sound recording equipment at that time. Professional music recording with the vocals of Vigen Davoodi began at Pop Studio after the introduction of these advanced recording facilities.
Mohsen Kalhor, prior to his collaboration with this studio, had been a music sound recorder and dubbing artist since 1337 (1958). He started working with radio and television sound from 1348 (1969). After years of artistic activity and recording Iranian music works, Mohsen Kalhor passed away in 1379 (2000) in Tehran.
Naser Farhoudi and Rahim Nahi, both graduates of the School of Audio and Visual Arts, started their collaboration with Pop Studio in 1355 (1976) at the invitation of Mohsen Kalhor as sound engineers. After Mohsen Kalhor’s death, Naser Farhoodi took over the management of the studio until his own passing on August 1, 2017.
Milad Farhoodi continued recording music at this studio after his father’s death. With the advent of digital recording and sound equipment, Pop Studio also took advantage of these capabilities.
